SMU Project Poëtica aims to make SMU a center of the English-language poetry world. While many institutions have decreased their commitments to poetry and, more broadly, the literary arts, SMU Project Poëtica has launched three book lines with Bridwell Press; and hosts ambitious series of readings, lectures, symposia, and creative conversations. We proudly support the art of poetry.
The Center gathers resources at Stanford for the theoretical and historical study of poetry. Its several activities convene a community of scholars, students, poets, and others in the Bay Area and beyond. As an institution, the Center honors Stanford's long tradition of theory and criticism of poetry in many languages, carrying that tradition forward with new approaches and perspectives.
The Stanford Humanities Center confronts this moment in history and culture with insights into the questions that define our world. As a Center we promote provocative discussions, the exchange of ideas across languages and cultures, and continual, rigorous reflection on how knowledge is made.
The Center sponsors advanced research in the humanities and the interpretive social sciences by investing in experiences—fellowships, workshops, lectures, and other events—that enrich knowledge in and across the disciplines. The internationally renowned Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA), now part of the Humanities Center, embraces emerging digital methodologies and tools to complement existing traditional research methods of analysis and interpretation. Together, the Stanford Humanities Center and CESTA serve as the hub of an international network of fellows, visiting scholars, students, and alumni.
We are also incredibly grateful to the Stanford Division of Literatures, Cultures and Languages, Mantis: A Journal of Poetry, Criticism & Translation, the Stanford Department of Comparative Literature, the Stanford Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, the Stanford Department of English, and the Harvard Department of English for their generous support.
